Fasting

This is the holy month of ramazan where all the muslims fast.We start the day with prayers and the predawn meal then take no food or drink during the day till dusk after the call for prayer at dusk you are free to eat anything .You have to eat fruits since the moisture in them helps keep the balance of the system .The down side is when you have a headache you dont have a way of taking medication.Although it says that the sick need not fast that applies to the people who are serios ly till even they have to make it up when they get better.

The Sri Lankan armed forces won the LTTE strong hold of Thoppigala.There was abig celebration at the Independance Square in Colombo.Everybody felt that the victory was overstated and played tot the governments tune.It is true that everybody is tired of this war but there is no reason to rush things.If that wasnt enough there was another parade in front of the shravasti the STF headquarter honoring the parents of the soldiers
Inspite of all this publicity the soldiers seem no nearer winning the war we only hear of so many killed from either side .So it continues .While the parents mourn the stubborn encounter between the LTTe and the soldiers continues

Housemaids

There are number of girls going to the middle east as housemaids to earn income from Saudi Arabian household.due to several unpleasant happenings the Foreign Employment Bureau wants all house holders to be qualified before they go but inspite of this there are a number of Sri Lankans who are under aged who slip through the fingers of the authorities with fake documents.

One such instance was Rizana Nazik 17 uyear old girl from the eastern province who had gone to middleast to the betterment of their status.She had been bottlefeeding the infant in question when he choked and died .The family she worked for took the blame on the girl and now she is sentenced to be hanged after being charged with murder of the first degree .She had been made to take a confession during which she had confessed to the crime under duress, after a translator had been provided to her she told the whole story according to her which is true.She had lied about her age to get to Saudi which gives her a credibility of zero.

Prices of Goods

There was an unprecedented rise in the prices of fuel corresponding to the rise in global market prices.But the irony is when the global market prices fall the oil prices in Sri Lanka correspondinly fall.This is so unfair.Since the consumers have to bear the brunt of the burden.With the rise in the prices of oil and related products the dependant produce also rises their prices accordingly since they have to bear the burden of the price rise they pass it all to the customer. The rich people are not affected by the rise however the people who are living from paycheck to paycheck are finding it extremely difficult to make ends meet.

Those who are not properly schooled or not morally strong tend to satisfy their wants by resorting to illegal means and perform crimes against people which can be avoided if everybody had plenty to live with.Inspite of the 7 percent growth said to have been moving the economy the general public has not got any advantages than before

Hope something turns to the better in the second half of the year.

This is the picture of the Colombo Minicipal Council.It looks good because it was built by the British in the colonial days.But left of its infrastructure is nil.Just the other day I called them to repair the wire in the street light in front of our house which has got lose.The light was sparking.I was so scared it might catch fire that I transferred from the first room where I usually sleep ,where the light is close to ,to the other room,which is further away.They said they will be there yesterday which transferred to today and then still not having turned up,I wonder what day it will be.On tpo of everything the SouthWest monsoon is here so if the current goes through the water someone might get hurt.These people dont have a heart.

Its not only the municipal council but all the government agencies are the same .The attendence to the service is very poor.But they expect themselves to be paid lion salaries.

Promotion

I have at last got the much awaited promotion at Ceylon Tours.I have been working all over the place without settling down somewhere but now I think it is better to settle down in single place so I stayed here for a year and a half.And lo I got a promotion to a secretary. Our business at Ceylon Tours is Tourism So it should be interesting to work as a secretary to the travel department.Before I can go inside and take up my promoted job I have to traina girl at the reception counter where I have been working so far. Anew girl has already come and she has assumed duties she is pretty and very popular.Thats not fair is it.But I am getting the promotion arent I ? So why complain.

On the mountain trail

We went on an office trip to Belihul-oya to the south of Sri Lanka.Staff and family members attended the trip.It was an eco camping site the environs were really beautiful.We stayed in tents meals were bought from the head office nine miles away.On day one wehad a bath in the stream .I nearly drowned one of the staff saved me.On day two we went to see the town of Haputale.The scenery on the way was breathtaking.Then the next day went trekking in the forest.The others went boating too ,but I refrained because I had a near death experience.It was late at night when we returned.

Being Fat

This not actually my picture it is of some fat girl.I put it there because I am fat too. I am trying to reduce but cannot seem to be able to stop eating .I love food. But since the doctor advised me to stop or threatened with diabetese I have cut down all the extras.I am too lazy to get up in the morning to exercise before I go to work.So now I walk from work It takes one hour to get home its very tiring and I am hungry after cutting down to two meals a day.But I have gone down a bit and I think the effort is worth it.

British Ceylon

In 1815 the British landed in this small island in the Indian ocean then known in various names Serendib,Seylan,Taprobane Lanka.Under the British there were many developments in the country .Railways were built, roads for commuting ,to bring the goods of produce to the harbour.There were several British organizations established as well .Schools were incorporated .To this day Sri Lanka remains on the world map because of this colonization .Although Sri Lanka gained its independance in 1948 as a single entity,The remains of colonization is evident .English being the language of trade and commerce more than half a century since the British left. There are many British exams available and study centre more than any other foreign country.That where I come in I was looking for study packages and i realised that if it were not for the British we would be something like Nepal.

Funlock

Rain

last whole week the rains came down from the heavens and the roads were foolded traffic was at a standstill.15 minute drive to work took nearly 2 hours.On top of that there was a hole in Galle road blocking all traffic through that area shown in picture.

We lost the match

Yo !on the 28 Sri LAnka lost the match finals to the aussies.Pretty sad about it maybe next time we could win but the Aussies have a strong cricket academy and so on which we dont.So its just hopeless they have won the cup for the third consecutive time.Its a shame that the pakisthani coach was killed at a crucial moment .Crickets supposed to be a gentlemens game not a murdering hot rush.

The burial of Bob Woolmer took place two days ago in South Africa.He was claimed to have been murdered by poison after the defeat to the Ireland team

Learning Arabic

I have been applying for jobs in the Middleast my brother who is there told me they pay more if you know Arabic .So I called up Centre for Islamic Studies and left my name to be called up .They called me but wont take the fees until the end of the month .Nice of them.The person who teaces is a man so they dont differentiate between women for women policy .Good thinking.
I would really like to learn the Arabic language since it is the language of the Quran which we are supposed to follow.
I have had this fascination for Arabia since my childhood.Maybe I will be able to fulfill my dream in the near future
